it is a GLAMBOX world

it is that time of the month. just when you think pay-day will never come and the month is draaaging, a very charming pink box arrives at the office door. if you are still “guessing” as to what this pink box may be, then you need to quickly read here.

having experienced this joy last month, i couldn't contain my excitement. do not even try get the men to understand, because they don’t. in this month’s box of treats i was absolutely blown away, it was definitely an “all-rounder GlamBox”, with make-up products, jewellery, something for the lips, a body scrub, a fragrance and vouchers. i must admit i did have expectations, and they were met.

in this box of treats, all the ladies received:
  • Acqua di Gioia by Giorgio Armani : this is a beautiful fragrance and i must admit one of my favs. i love the description: “examples of invisible sophistication, symbolizing perfection and harmony”. does that just not sound fabulous?
  • Lip Ice Seductions – Alluring Pearl **full size**: score! another treat. however, i was a bit disspointed when i tried the product. it was not as “pearly” as i thought and it came out like normal lipgloss L. but, it tastes and smells nice – which is always a bonus with these things.
these were my two favs from the box.
  • Crabtree & Evelyn Citron, Honey AND Coriander skin smoothing body scrub: sho, i do not know if any of you have tried Crabtree and Evelyn products, but they are really great. this is descriped as “true indulgence” for your skin – i cannot agree more.

  • Revlon Photoready 3D Mascara **full size** : i only but got excited for this. i love mascara and enivitabley have more than one tube. i have seen this advertised but am yet to try it. but it looks and sounds great.

  • Avon Effortless Chic necklace & earring set : ok, so first impressions, i was like “eeek, this will go straight to my mum”, but when i tried the necklace with a royal blue top, i was in love. however, i think i am still too young to have matching necklace and earings. but nonetheless, i will make it work.

over and above these treats, there were two vouchers, one for 5rooms.com (online furniture shop) and a voucher for revlon face creams. just delightful.

DID YOU KNOW:  GlamBox now has a BambinoBox and a TheBox for Men for Winter. so if you want to bless a pregnant mum, then do it with BambinoBox, or if you want to get that male figure in your life to understand the joy of receiving beauty products in the post, then test out TheBox for men.

if you received a GlamBox this month, why not earn a couple of GlamPoints (which can be redeemed for something fabulous in the Glam online beauty shop at a later stage), by filling out their survey for the May GlamBox. it doesn’t take long to do, and you will not only be scoring points for yourself, but you will be helping the brands with further information on their target market and consumer.

for more information, don’t forget to follow GlamBox on Facebook, Twitter, or visit their website, to sign up to receive your box of treats next month.

have a lovely weekend.

getting that "winter" pout

as a woman, we all love to read what the "best Winter 2012 shade is". well, i am asking, is there such a thing?

i agree that different lip shades trend at different times of the year, and as i am no beauty-professional, how would i actually know. as i try and read every glossy magazine and website under the sun, they all say different things. hmmm. i believe that beauty is not like the fashion seasons that come and go, but rather what a lady feels "empowered" by, and is used to.

after doing some research across numerous reputable fashion and beauty websites, i came to the conclusion that a lady should wear what she feels is most empowering. there is something about putting on bright red lipstick that makes you feel you are a woman of power, or going for the natural nude shade that displays simplicity, and self-content. or even that cheeky pink that is pretty in all the right places and is never too much of a statement, but instead a daytime look that illustrates contentment.  heck, i don't know.

whether you have a juicy pout like Miss Jolie or those elegant petite lips like Miss Hudson, there is always a easy look for day and night, anytime of the year.

DID YOU KNOW:

Ancient Mesopotamian women were possibly the first women to invent and wear lipstick. They crushed gemstones and used them to decorate their lips. The beautiful Cleopatra had her lipstick made from crushed carmine beetles, which gave a deep red pigment, and ants for a base. Lipsticks with shimmering effects were initially made using a pearlescentsubstance found in fish scales.
In Medieval Europe, lipstick was banned by the church and was thought to be used as an 'incarnation of Satan', cosmetics being 'reserved' for prostitutes. Lip colouring started to gain some popularity in 16th century England. During the reign of Queen Elizabeth I (you see, thank goodness for the Monarchy) bright red lips and a stark white face became fashionable. By that time, lipstick was made from a blend of beeswax and red stains from plants. Only upper class women and male actors wore makeup. And of course, you can fill in the rest.
                                                                                                                                all information sourced

Refinery29 ran an article of Four Hot Lip Trends. i only agree (or like) three of them. i see these lip colours and looks as being the most pertinent and relevant looks in the beauty industry. they are not too much and work well for any season. see below these three lip shades:

the tangerine colour is great for day time and the rich-red is superb for evening wear.

i am not too crazy about the outter two shades, but give me the middle one any day

**NB : with nude lip colours it is always important (especially ladies with finer lips) to use a lip liner for perfect (and better) definition of the lips

Not so long ago i learnt and read about Clinique's Chubby Stick Moisturising Lip Colour Balm  on Kim Gray's blog. i entered the competition, but i never won, but still determined to have one of these sticks, i went and purchased the Chunky Cherry and i have loved every minute of it. they are great for a fresh and clean look.

one sneaky "lip-tip" from me. ever get frustrated that your lip colour is not as "lasting" as the marketing advertised? well, try applying your foundation on your lips first OR (as my research showed) using a dry tooth brush on your lips before applying your lipstick. sigh, it is strange but try it. you have nothing to loose, only to gain.
have a lovely weekend.

the inside of a GLAMBOX

finally the day has arrived. my first GLAMBOX is waiting for me at the front of the office. the men in the office do not understand my excitement - why would they?  i mean, who pays for sample products that will only last a few weeks? well,  1000's of women (and a few men i am sure) in Southern Africa do. anyway, i will keep the history for another time. but right now, let’s get to the good stuff.

in this shocking pink box, was what i would call a triple C : classy, chic & charcoal.

the beautifully square box that held my treats was packed with an array of beauty products and shredded paper, that later made a mess on my floor as a dug through to find the few indulgences.

this month’s GLAMBOX was “smoother” than normal. all the treats were either a cream or a gel of some sort. with winter approaching GLAMBOX wanted to ensure that we are “rejuvenated, moisturised and pampered by only the best beauty products that will make our skin smile”

for only a R100 a month, this is what my April GLAMBOX consisted of :
